Product Notes

3D Joy CONTAINER is a collection of 10 songs, primarily written by me...Dale J. DeJoy. These songs were chosen for the fact that they were of Island sound and not only made your feet dance, but your hands dance too! Many of these songs were written on the Island of Antigua where I have spent a whole lot of time. The songs conjur up scenes of bon fires on the beach, sailboats, palm trees, and a breeze...they'll make you feel like flying! Good driving music, smile and drive! Each of the songs tells a story or is a statement in regard to a situation. The first song, Pistons, Gasoline and Spark, is about the stupidity of todays automobiles. To be driving around on four wheels in a box, propelled by millions of tiny explosions fueled by gasoline, is ridiculous. It struck me one day while driving in my four wheel status symbol and along came this song. The second song, Never Too Far, tells a story of average people struggling in their own skin, dealing with their vises, their childhoods, their brains. How the feeling of hopelessness is only a feeling. It's only real if you make it so. Otherworldy Thoughts, was written while I was working for a company in the mountains of New Hampshire, dreaming of going back to the Heaven on Earth that I call Antigua. Highly Salacious is a statement in regard to those of us who use religion as a tool to get something here on earth! In particular this song is about a very specific self proclaimed Rastaman I know down in Antigua. He told me Jah wanted him to spread his religion by copulating with all the white women he possibly could and pass his seed so that there might be who knows how many other little pseudo Rasta's just like him roaming around. He took to this task like none other and would hit on any attractive white woman he saw including those in the arms of their boyfriends or husbands! I have heard of many angry men. Highly Salacious is also a bit of a pun regarding the great prophet (according to the Rastas) Hiley Salacy, the leader of Ethiopia. He, however, does not acknowledge this charge. Salt Peter was written spontaneously about a ladies lust for cigarettes over the man she supposedly loved. It used to be, or it may still be, that cigarettes are made with a bit of salt peter to help them burn and not go out. I wrote this song from front to back by playing and singing with a tape recorder rolling. All the words and music remain as they originally fell from my demented brain during that afternoon with two of my brothers on the coast of Maine. The title track, Container, is obviously about an empty heart and how the material things in this world are no substitute for love and passion! Don't Go Unnoticed was written after a combative city meeting where I stood up to the Authority for the People, but the People were quiet until after the meeting when many of them approached me to let me know how fervently they agreed with me. Unfortunately, they did not speak up during the meeting, which really brought on some emotion!!! Strong emotion is the basis for every good song! Lastly, Forever Bed was written in Antigua and is a sermon to a longtime friend. A Rastaman that I have known from the time we were both 6 or 7 years old. We had spent a lot of time together through the years and I had returned to the Island a few years back to find out that this dear friend had become seriously hooked on the crackpipe! This brought him many terrifying travails...the local Island Police Force, the loss of his Night Club, the loss of his girlfriend, and a whole new circle of friends which in fact were not at all friends. He came very close to ending up in his Forever Bed, but luckily, he pulled himself out of the depths, and is now a Happy Mon again...Never too far to turn around! Some interesting notes: The primary electric guitar used on this CD is a 1960 Fender Stratocaster, previously in the possession of Skunk Baxter, the guitar player for the Doobie Brothers and a couple of Steely Dan records. Skunk played this very guitar on those Steely Dan records and also many Doobie Brothers hits!!! The Drummer on this CD George Correia, a great Drummer who played the entire 10 tracks after almost all the tracks were recorded and he replaced a drum machine without a click track! The most unfortunate thing was George's name was omitted from the jacket by the publisher. George we are so sorry, you are Great! You did a great job and you will be first in line on the next printing.
