500Hats was formed in June of 1996. Chris Bezile (guitar), Boris Vasilev (bass), and Steve Westmoreland (drums) auditioned singers and eventually hooked up with John Davidson, who had recently relocated from the Chicago area. Time passes, they play shows and find themselves loaded with material, so it's time to make a record. Unfortunately, while starting the process, Steve announces that he's moving to New York, but they manage to record all the drums before he leaves. Due to conflicting schedules and unfortunate time delays, recording became a slow going process, but by September of 2000 Collide-a-scope was complete and in the stores. The release contains 10 original tracks written and produced by the band that shows a definite maturity from previous demos, while keeping their pop sensibilities and tongue-in-cheek humor close at hand. Today, complete with new drummer Todd Wright, the Hats look forward and concentrate their efforts in writing and recording great music, playing shows, and most of all having fun. You can also expect another release in the near future.
