"A PURE ROCK & ROLL EXPERIENCE" There is no need to hype 629. A casual listen to their debut recording, Reflections, refreshes the ears and senses with the delight that comes from listening to a pure rock & roll experience. A closer listen will reveal the mature musicianship and songwriting that cannot be obtained from production "tricks," but is derived from superior talent. This is an unapologetic, journeyman rock band in every sense. A comfortable familiarity is present in the compositions, which spurs one into singing along by the end of a song. The lyrics, delightfully understandable, are slices-of-life stories. They create mental landscapes that can draw one deeper into thought, provoking a range of emotions. A noteworthy difference between 629 and many of the contemporary rock bands is their strong sense of values. This is a grownup rock & roll band. These are mature men, unashamed to admit they are not seeking attention as "bad boys" -- or in the case of many classic rockers -- "aging bad boys." These are family men who can play great rock & roll in front of families. They don't seek a marketing edge by behaving badly. On the road, in the recording environment, or just hanging out and relaxing, this is a self-confident group of thoughtful men. They enjoy playing music and are not the least bit interested in antics that, too often, replace sheer talent as the most noteworthy aspect of their alliance.
