Description
Born in 1938, Alton Ellis grew up in Trench Town, Jamaica. Born into a musical family & learning the piano at a young age, he started his career in 1959 as part of the duo "Alton & Eddie" with Eddie Perkins. They recorded for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One, where they had a massive hit with "Muriel". He later went onto form a duo with John Holt, but after Holt joined "The paragons", Ellis formed the "Flames" recording for both Dodd and Duke Reid on the Treasure Isle label. It was whilst performing with the Flames Ellis had some major hits, including "Girl I got a date", "Cry tough" and "Get ready", all of which appear on this classic 2 CD release featuring 30 massive hits, this is a fitting tribute to the "Legend" that is "Alton Ellis".
Alton received the Order of distinction in 2004.
