Description
Blue Note Records has signed singer-songwriter Amos Lee, a Philadelphia native and resident, he has a musical style that draws influence from several American traditions, from soul to folk. Music critic Tom Moon, writing in The Philadelphia Inquirer last year, called Lee "one of the area's most-talked-about emerging talents," adding that "He's got a sly, easygoing voice, and when he slides into falsetto there's a touch of Princely flutter, as well as Jeff Buckley's raw, unedited emotion." After returning from a 3-month long stint as the opening act on Norah Jones's European tour in 2004, Lee headed into the studio in New York City in July to record his debut album for Blue Note with Lee Alexander (manning the production chair) (Norah Jones bassist/ songwriter). Lee also toured with Norah Jones in the opening slot of her massive North American tour that touched down in 53 cities between August and November.
People: "When you get to track 3, the beautifully tender 'Arms of a Woman' on Amos Lee's self-titled debut, you know this singer-songwriter is something special. It's a spare, acoustic-guitar-driven ballad that, with its rootsy blend of country, gospel and blues hues, you could almost imagine Ray Charles crooning in his heyday . this Amos deserves to be famous."
