Description
Includes liner notes by Vivien Goldman. At the height of his popularity, Jacob 'Killer' Miller was one of the few reggae artists to compete with Bob Marley the hearts of the Jamaican people. Along with his backing outfit Inner Circle, Miller was given top billing over the Wailers at the famous 1978 "Peace Concert," not least because of his formidable stage presence, by all accounts a combination of imposing size and energetic performance. However, his breakthrough Jamaican hit "Baby I Love You So" was released internationally as an uncredited b-side to its Augustus Pablo/King Tubby dub version, the now classic "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown," thereby reducing his chances at sharing Marley's place in the international spotlight. In spite of Miller's continued crossover success with Inner Circle, any further chances at stardom were precluded by his untimely death in a 1980 car crash. Island Records' effort to remedy these earlier injustices, the 1985 REGGAE GREATS (dedicated to Miller), compiles some of his most-loved roots classics, including songs ("Tenement Yard," "Tired Fe Lick Weed in a Bush") that became Inner Circle standards.
