On CONQUEROR, his second full-length album under the guise of Jesu, former Godflesh singer/guitarist Justin Broadrick builds on the shoegazer leanings of the SILVER EP, resulting in a hypnotic set of strikingly heavy indie rock. Featuring spare rhythms and buried vocals, the record finds Broadrick densely layering guitar and keyboard lines for a sound that is both minimal and disarmingly full. Often moving at a glacial pace (see the swirling title track and the epic "Weightless & Horizontal"), CONQUEROR's songs convey a certain sense of majesty as they slowly unfurl, rewarding the listener with a fascinating collection that easily ranks among the top post-rock releases of 2007.
