Quite simply, Jimmy Cliff is a legend. The Grammy winning singer-songwriter-come-actor made his recording debut as a teenager almost five decades ago, when he cut the first in a series of best selling Ska titles in his native Jamaica. A move to Chris Blackwell's London-based Island Records in the mid-sixties followed, after which he recorded a number of groundbreaking singles, including the major UK chart hits, 'Wonderful World, Beautiful People', 'Vietnam' and 'Wild World'. Since then, he has remained at the cutting edge of the Reggae scene, scoring with numerous international hits as well as starring in major motion pictures, 'The Harder They Come' and 'Club Paradise', with his contribution to the Jamaican entertainment industry recently recognised by the island's government. This collection draws together the best of Jimmy Cliff's work cut in the years immediately before and after his move to Britain. Included are a slew of Ska, Soul, Pop and Reggae sides, including all his UK and US hits from the period, along with a number of sides that make their CD debut, most notably the previously unissued 'A Little Bit Of Soap'. The net result is the most comprehensive collection to date of the versatile singer's early and arguably best recordings.
