Steve Aoki has been a central figure on the American dance music scene for a few years now. His seminal track, "Warp," was a hard electro classic and a fixture at any college party in the late '2000s. Moreover, as dance music has grown in America, so too has Aoki’s career. He recently headlined the IDentity Festival—the first ever touring electronic music festival—and had a monster club hit with the single "No Beef" featuring in-producer of the moment Afrojack. Now Aoki is taking the next step in his storied career with the release of his first artist album, "Wonderland."
"Wonderland" is front loaded with the radio friendly stuff that kicks off with Aoki's chart-topping collaboration with Rivers Cuomo, "Earthquakey People." The off-beat bass line and powerblock synths perfectly match up with Cuomo’s command to "jump around and keep on dancing."
Aoki drops the bass down low on the sizzling "Control Freak" that features Blaqstarr and emerging Canadian pop sensation My Name Is Kay who lays down a potent top line. Slated to be one of Aoki's future singles, ArjanWrites.com recently visited the set of the video shoot for "Control Freak" together with director DJ Skeet Skeet and My Name Is Kay.
Aoki's also teamed with hit writer and pop singer Wynter Gordon. Gordon has a real ear for catchy hooks and the "Dirty Talk" singer perfectly matches up with Aoki’s demure melodies on their "Ladi Dadi." Aoki and NERVO masterfully embrace the chart-topping party rock on "Livin' My Love" that prominently features the rambunctious Cherrytree Records wonderboys LMFAO.
