Product Notes

CD. Album "AFRO PORTRAIT". Obscurely beautiful. Oslo-based singer "ABUWA" released his new CD; "Afro Portrait", produced by Jock Loveband and Abuwa for Ebony Records/Urban Sound Records. For world music lovers, this is a CD to listening to. It is afrobeat from Nigeria, evoking memories of Fela Kuti in the 70s but still very much Abuwa in it's personality and style. Folklore and the contemporary are well mixed to make this a powerful and moving record. Abuwa's band, "Shekere" is a collection of wonderful and talented musicians from all four corners of the African sub-continent as well as Norway. The rhythm section, (drums and bass), which play a central role in Afrobeat, feature the skills of Uriel Seri and Khalid Salih. The soulful blend of veteran saxophonist Darryl Barber, trumpeter Per Willy Aaserud and guitarist, Øivind Wang Tollefsen create the rest of the sound of "Shekere". The quiet Mr.Kjetil Lund on keyboards and fender rhodes, the icing on the cake. Abuwa performed alongside some international world music stars like Aida Nadeem from Iraq nominated for BBC world music awards 2006, bassists Moussa Diallo from Mali and Carlos D'L Puerto from Cuba.
