AMEEN Drummer/Poet/Lyricist Although Carl A. Uqdah a.k.a. AMEEN began his drumming career playing the blues; working with such notables as blues great Ko Ko Taylor, he is comfortable playing many venues of music including jazz, alternative and R&B. Ameen fronted several groups before co-founding a 'Philly' style message group called 'The Inviters To Truth' to which he successfully incorporated his unique free style but 'in-the-pocket' drum licks. It was while performing with the 'Phases Unlimited Band'; a product of Ameen's own 'Phases Unlimited Production Co.' that Ameen was declared by the 'Chicago Park District Music Showcase' to be one of the city's most outstanding drummers. Ameen spent several years as the drummer for the 'Artists' vocal group and was the house band drummer for Chicago's 2000 'Chi-Town Doo-Wop Show' at the Navy Pier Skyline Theater. Ameen has recently performed with several of Chicago's local big bands including 'Generations Big Band, 'Emanon' and 'Sounds of Hakim'. After a long hiatus, his latest musical effort is something he always wanted to do-that is, to create a CD with an accompaniment consisting entirely of percussion instruments. In keeping with the age old tradition of drummers/musicians bringing news, telling meaningful stories and especially reciting words of enlightenment-Ameen clearly points out some of the many moral issues challenging our society, he also offers some valuable and viable solutions along with a energetic beat. In addressing the pitiful, decadent and disrespectful betrayals of women in too many of the Hip-Hop and Rap lyrics of today, Ameen in his current CD title tune 'The Woman', gives special attention to the contributions of women to our past and present civilizations. 'The Woman' CD is a unique rhythmic experience with handheld percussion instruments and drums behind beautiful songs and poetry of enlightenment.
