When No One's Watching
Influenced by the power and persuasion of jazz, Andrew Miller has a raw yet fresh sound. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Andrew grew up in a home where he was surrounded by music. Andrew appreciates and has a certain love for many different musicians and genres. This mature understanding of the sound, feeling, quality, texture, and ability to lose one's identity in music enhances Andrew's power to write and compose songs that have childlike truth expressing adult emotions. Thematically, an honest perspective resonates through the album that has been twenty years in the making. His songs address relatable experiences such as heartache, loneliness, and childhood memories in a tongue-and-cheek manner; each being what it truly is...no otherwise confusion. One could relay that it is this heart-felt truth in his words that make each song addicting. Comparable to the initial high of a drug is the music of Andrew Miller. His confessions entice one to listen time after time, with each rotation being able to receive or understand a new truth. With "If I Could Fly," Andrew gives a soulful rendition of the world's ability to lose perception. He covers an ambitious topic with a personal explanation of his attitude and point of view about society. Compelling is the idea of the 'greater theme,' Andrew conquers this topic lyrically in a bold fashion while the music is calming and at moments sparse. Ultimately, Andrew has no desire to give a right verses wrong explanation, rather a desire for others to release themselves from a current view and see things in a new light. Andrew points out that, "When you are young, there is no political correctness, no drugs nor an inhibition to keep your brain from going astray, nothing that keeps you from being you. The way you saw things was more or less the way they really were. That guy is fat, she is short, that building is tall. I think that is beautiful, and I think that is what the world lacks...the truth." "1183," the final track for "When No One's Watching," is a calming recollection of Andrew's childhood home. The vocals are harmoniously drawn into the music and create an intimate picture for the listener. The primary musical objective is just to share a love for a place dear to his heart while the inherent nature of the song is to temporarily pause time and journey to a cherished memory. "1183," is a song to which every listener could relate. "People... love to hear songs that take them back to that place. To be able to take some one back to a point in their life for a few minuets is magic, and what I want to do more than anything," says Andrew. Having achieved his goal, Andrew has magically intertwined memory with music in the emotionally moving song, "1183." Collectively, the songs for "When No One's Watching" represent a sense of truth and maturity for Andrew Miller. Covering a variety of topics, the album has a cohesive tone showcased by multi-genre styles. Featuring a collection of songs where each can be individually appreciated. Andrew has created a highly anticipated and appropriate first album, a fantastic beginning to a promising career.
