Modernist singer -songwriter Andy Onyx presents Way of the Stone a new album of Cinematic Rock 'n' Soul on his home grown independent imprint Village Green. A CD of two half's featuring a groove and hook laden 'A side' (tracks1-6) and Acoustadelic Torch & Love songs on the 'B' (7-12) in true LP fashion- 'Golden doors are opening...' R 'n' B to Eco-Ballad.... Andy Onyx draws inspiration from sounds ranging from Northern Soul and West Coast folk-rock to Bowie and Eno. Creating a kind of 'noughties' hybrid of Love's Forever Changes and Bowies Hunky Dory in his own lyrical style. Andy Onyx ~ Way of the Stone... 'Soulful rock for Soul-less times' The Album closer, Scuttle Ship features samples from an endangered colony of Humpback whales from Hervey Bay,Queensland Australia tuned by Co-Producer Nick Hunt into oceanic backing vocals. The band on the album are the Lamps of Fire collective featuring personnel from Zero 7, the Dandy Warhols, Primal Scream, and the Style Council. ANDY 0NYX WAS BORN ANDREW MICHAEL O'CONNOR IN HUDDERSFEILD WEST YORKSHIRE IN 1969. A MIXED RACE ILLICIT CHILD, THE RESULT OF A BACKSTAGE TRYST BETWEEN HIS IRISH MOTHER AND AFRO AMERICAN PERFORMING MAGICIAN FATHER, HE WAS SENT INTO THE CARE OF CATHOLIC NUNS IN A WEST YORKSHIRE CONVENT AND LATER FOSTERED TO HIS GRAND PARENTS AND THE O'CONNOR FAMILY IN SKEGNESS, LINCOLNSHIRE WHERE HE GREW UP. AFTER LEAVING SCHOOL IN 1985 HE FOUND HIMSELF REJECTED BY LINCOLN ART COLLEGE DUE TO CONFLICTING IDEAS ABOUT ART AND FREE -LOVE AND WOUND UP ON A YTS COURSE PAINTING AND DECORATING. HIS GAFFER WAS A FULL ON HIPPY AND HUGE MUSIC FAN INTRODUCING ANDY TO MANY GREAT BANDS OF THE 60'S AND 70'S CONTRASTING TO HIS SCHOOL BOY LISTENING OF NORTHERN SOUL, ELECTRO AND BANDS SUCH AS JAPAN, KRAFTWERK, AND THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS. PLAYING FRETLESS BASS AND SINGING IN LOCAL BANDS PASSED TIME BEFORE BEING SUCKED IN TO RAVES IN THE WINTERS AND FESTIVALS IN SUMMERTIME. CHANGES IN LOVE AND LIFE LEAD HIM TO RE LOCATE TO LONDON IN 1998 WITH A BAG FULL OF PAINT BRUSHES AND DEMO TAPES. THERE HE BEGAN TO PLAY SOLO AROUND THE UNPLUGGED LIVE CIRCUIT, WHICH LEAD TO A MEETING WITH FORMER YOUNG DISCIPLES MEMBER AND PRODUCER MARCO NELSON. THE PAIR HIT IT OFF AND AGREED TO RECORD TOGETHER. THE SESSIONS WERE FUNDED BY A PRINCES TRUST LOAN AND LEAD TO ANDY CREATING HIS OWN INDEPENDENT LABEL VILLAGE GREEN DISTRIBUTED THROUGH CARGO UK. HE HAS RELEASED TWO INDEPENDENT RECORDS UNDERGROUND 'IGNITION' IN 2001 AND LIBERATION DAY/NORTHERN LIGHT IN 2002 AND HAS RECENTLY RECORDED HIS FULL LENGTH DEBUT OF CINEMATIC ROCK 'N' SOUL ANDY ONYX - WAY OF THE STONE.
