City of Oblivion
NYC native Anton Sword was writing songs in secret like any good romantic for a long time, performing with numerous NYC bands in the area and all over Europe. After the unraveling of a long-term relationship (chronicled in his 2007 CD, A Sentimental Education) Sword fled the city and encamped to Berlin, writing a set of songs detailing the journey out and back. The songs lead through the stages of awakening, disillusionment, discovery, excitement, seduction, decadence, rejection, abandonment, return, and philosophical acceptance. Writing each song in a different style, Sword went on to arrange and record the tracks in three different studios with some of the best unsung musicians on both continents (including bassist Chris Wilson of Love Spit Love and The Mabuses, drummer Kristin Mueller of Lucinda Black Bear/C.Gibbs), christening the band 'The We Ours' (currently the most stable lineup is a trio, with Kristin on drums and Jessica Hallman on cello/bass). 'City of Oblivion' is the result. It's a bit glam, a bit prog, a bit pop, and a bit ambient. But it's melodically, lyrically, and sonically, it will take you on a complete journey.
