Originally slated for a Warner Brothers release, Someday was recorded at Long View Farms in North Brookfield, MA during 1983. It would have been the first record of a fourth five-year term on the Warners label but it was destined for something else. We ended our 15 year relationship with Warners on a happy note - They gave us the recording of Someday with no strings attached, and soon afterward we started our own company Rising Son Records. It took a few years to get the new company going but eventually in 1986 Someday was released on our own label. We were finally free to make records without anyone looking over our shoulders. The years of being a part of the entertainment industry were over and we began to make our records without contracts, without power lunches, and without money - but we were happy! The songs on this recording reflect the difficult days of transition. As the project progressed things were happening - Our third unsuccessful divorce attempt, my mother dying, my best friend and producer, John Pilla passing away, our financial world in ruin... It was not a time I would ever want to repeat. But through it all I had an unfailing belief that things would work out for the best and that we would all end up where we ought to be... It's all in the songs. Arlo Guthrie.
