Product Notes

Brian Barrett, founder of 'Str8Brickz Records', is one of the fiercest unsigned, underground lyricists from the South. He is known for his ability to shift gears mid-verse, freezing and shocking his listeners. Equally as powerful as his delivery, his smoothly orchestrated lyrical technique is a verbal work of art, filled with imagery and idioms, which paint verbal pictures. Don't be fooled by his laid back persona; he is said to be two separate people. One: a polite, quiet young man, and the other: an infinite source of energy found only in the spotlight with a microphone in hand. In years past, his life was spent hustling, crime and thugging, Barretta found himself facing felony time. While in prison, he devised a plan called 'Tha RedBrickz project' to give younger thugs and G's an even deeper look into life on the streets. Brian Barrett, also know as ill-Barretta, is of the new breed of MC. He writes, arranges, produces and distributes his own music through several states. Barretta was a member of rap groups South of the Border and Crooked Minz, which had performances around Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Kansas, and Colorado. After South of the Border's album release, Barretta left the group to release his own record, Last of A Dying Breed. Now as a solo artist, Barretta surely has the skills to make an impact on the industry and claim the recognition he has long awaited and deserved. Rapping since the young age of 13, Barretta is far from an amateur. Taken under the wing of his older brother, Norman, he was slowly cured and cooked into the meal that millions of fans have been longing to hear through CD players. It's time for his adverse and vivid lines of vicious lyrical artwork to be showcased within the music industry. Displayed on a canvas of Southern gangsta beats in strong and heavy vocal brushwork and an array of powerful poetic techniques, you're sure to embrace ill-Barretta and what he brings 'Back to the Game of Rap' originality. Since he first approached the microphone in 1990 and won his first local talent show in Georgia, Barretta was given the title 'One Man Army'. It was not his drive to devour any of his opponents in the realms of freestyle ciphers; nor his enormous ability to touch thuggish hearts but it was done. Nevertheless, he uses his ability to create romantic poetry that would sweep any woman off her feet. Also he has an artistic ability to paint the images he thinks onto the mental canvas of anyone who hears his words. Along with his expressive lyrics he has a cunning wit to create his own dirty south style of beats. Yes, he's a beat maker: A beat maker with the skills of a young Dr. Dre. Without a doubt, Barretta's smooth, exciting and sometimes tongue-tied deliveries are as complete as his stage presence and performance. A lyrical genius, with a verbal arsenal that will slaughter his opponent. This baby-faced artist, who's physical appearance seems just as astonishing as his talent, will without a doubt be a recognized force in the future of rap. Barretta considers himself to be a 'lab-rat' because he spends numerous amount of time in the studio. He will neither be out-done nor forgotten. 'Legends will be those who rides with him. And forgotten will be those the he rolls over....' His meaning of rap music has no holds, nor is it barred, or edited. A version of the streets aired by 60 minutes, even in it's prime, couldn't depict his meaning. His drive: anger, pain, and frustration. His message: 'Survive and provide, thrive and never subside 'til I Die.' All relates to his newly released album, 'Heavy Rotation'. Barretta is also writing a book 'How I Did It' and working on his album 'A New Kind Of Grind'.
