So Good Inside
Biography Having studied piano since the age of 5, playing the traditional classical repertoire, Ben finally chose to stop playing aged 15 - teenage life, and listening to heavy metal (AC/DC, Iron Maiden) were far more interesting. It was only a few years later after hearing Bruce Hornsby's 'The Way It Is' on the radio, that playing & writing music was of interest again. Whilst completing a law degree in Bristol, England, Ben once again took up piano study with gifted jazz pianist Dave Buxton (Andy Sheppard). It was Dave's creative & innovative approach to composition thhat inspired Ben to start writing his own music instead of playing that of others. Having fallen in love with Holland, Ben was accepted to study composition & arranging at the Rotterdam Conservatory of Music, where he studied with renowned jazz composer Bob Brookmeyer (Bill Evans, Clark Terry). The songwriting didn't stop, and during his study Ben won in UK magazine 'Sound on Sound' the demo of the month award for 3 of his songs - the review stated : 'This is a tape on which any of the three songs could be a hit for an established artisit' After a few years working as a freelance producer, engineer & musician - as well as singing & playing his way around Holland & Europe - Ben finally got round to recording an album of songs. 'One & Only You' was the result of some great songs, wonderful musicians, and attention to detail that only a self-produced, mixed & mastered CD can have. With the release of the CD by Nash Music in Holland, Ben has been very busy with every aspect of promotion. It seems that the many radio & live performaces, coupled with favourable airplay & reviews is helping to spread the word about Ben's music. A recent trip to Nashville USA (and help from friend Rob Crosby) was a wonderful experience, which helped further strengthen Ben's focus on songwriting, and the whole process of getting a song 'out there'. Ben's second CD single release takes the songwriting a step further. 'So Good Inside' is a 100 % 'pop' version of the more accoustic album track - with newly recorded vocals & rhythmn track (thanks to Bas v/d Heuvel) and is accompanied by a great-looking video clip (thanks to Elian Wils, Be Attitude).
