Christian Terry, lead singer and guitarist, is a native of Simsbury, Connecticut. Inspired by music at an early age, he first took up music by learning to play the piano. Ultimately, his love for the art led him to pursue an undergraduate degree in music. While studying at the University of Virginia, Christian helped form a band called Thoroughfare, the style of which can be described as a unique blend of rock, metal, and punk. When no singer could be found, he took on the lead singer role and doubled on guitar. The experience of writing original compositions and the emotional release that came from performing with the band fueled a passion to continue his musical education. Christian went on to complete a Master's degree in music composition and theory at Boston University for which he composed works for classical ensembles of all sizes, a symphony for orchestra, and music for theater. Most recently, Christian formed "Bending Steel," a project that has culminated in the creation of the band's first album, "Firesong." Originally from Portsmouth, Virginia, rhythm guitarist John Lochen started writing music at an early age. While earning his Bachelor's degree in music from University of Virginia, John helped found the band Thoroughfare along with Christian. John was also instrumental in the formation of Citizen's Arrest. John composed for both bands and served as lead singer, guitarist, and main songwriter for the new group. After moving to Boston, John continued writing music with Christian as a member of Bending Steel. Inspiration for John's music comes from his passion for all types of music from Classical to Celtic to Flamenco to Rock. However, his main influences include bands in the Punk, Hardcore, and Alternative Rock genres. John describes his music as having both drive and energy but at the same time maintaining a certain degree of gentleness and sincerity. His lyrics often serve as a release - a cathartic outpouring of the heart - that further enhances his music. Kunal Majmudar, drummer and keyboardist, hails from Marlboro, New Jersey. He began learning drums at the age of five and later delved into music synthesis. After performing with a number of bands throughout high school, he turned his attention to learning piano and music composition. He attended Boston University in pursuit of a degree in English literature and ultimately a career in marketing. While working towards his degree, he had the opportunity to enter into independent studies in composition with composer Samuel Headrick. Through these studies, he developed his current style, which explores and incorporates a unique variety of musical influences. As a film and rich-media composer, Kunal has already gained visibility in the video game and VG arrangement communities. The opportunity to study music at BU's College of Fine Arts also introduced Kunal to Christian and John. Together, they formed a group that would ultimately become "Bending Steel."
