A great new holiday CD from the Bill Susman and his trio. Bill Susman is a nationally recognized composer and arranger who has received many awards for his innovative works. He has worked with many internationally recognized musical artists both as composer and arranger. With this CD, Bill goes back to his jazz roots performing his own contemporary and innovative jazz arrangements of 12 classic Christmas and holiday songs. This CD demonstrates not only Bill's arranging skills but also his soulful improvisational abilities that continue to fuel his success and popularity. They recorded these songs in one evening with most of the tunes on the first take thus keeping it fresh and spontaneous. Starting with Bill's arrangements, the trio was able to let the songs develop their own identity in the studio. The result was not only in keeping with the original holiday spirit but also an energetic expression of musical joy. The performance of these holiday songs were an homage to the great pianists who have inspired Bill over the years from the swinging solos and block chords of Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, Red Garland and Gene Harris, to the lyricism and intricate harmony of Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock, not to mention the modal lines of McCoy Tyner and last but not least the bluesy solos of the great San Francisco pianist Vince Guaraldi. He recently won critical acclaim for his movie score for the award winning 'Oil on Ice' in which he also performs with Kronos Quartet alumnus Joan Jeanrenaud.
