Trip So Far
Binsey Poplars borrows it's name from a very small village just outside of Oxford. Lewis Caroll composed Alice in Wonderland in Binsey, after a picnic in the surrounding area, and Gerald Manley Hopkins wrote about the Binsey Poplars. It was also a historic site of pilgrimage for St Frideswide, patron saint of Oxford. This NYC quartet is quiet and dramatic. Sparkling guitars drift betwixt heavy electric thud and 4AD-esque atmospheric pop. A truly emotional quotient seeps through. Maryasque\'s voice soars up there with Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins. She paints pretty pictures on the music scape with tasteful dynamic multi-octave layers.
