'First Light' is the latest release from Northwest guitarist/composer Brian Cunningham. With his Quartet, he picks up where his 2002 CD 'Dust From a Different Town' left off, with more acoustic guitar oriented adventures. Brian is a prolific composer whose influences include the likes of Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell and Ralph Towner. He has forged a unique sound by performing and recording with groups in a variety of different settings including jazz, rock, folk, celtic and bluegrass. While showing a healthy respect for the jazz tradition in regard to form and improvisation, his music does tend to defy categorization. Folk, Latin and other influences are readily apparent in the music, giving it a flavor that is at times haunting, but always melodic. The compositions and performances show a level of sophistication and simplicity that make for an enjoyable and interesting listening experience. Brian is joined on 'First Light' by his quartet consisting of: Ron Peters - guitars Ron is a like-minded guitarist whose resume includes multiple world tours with the Manhattan Transfer, and currently teaches and performs extensively in the Seattle area. Tom Anastasio - acoustic and electric bass A road tested veteran of such bands as Asleep At the Wheel, Tom is a much sought after sideman and teacher in Northwest Washington. Cary Stevens - drums Cary's remarkable versatility means he is always in demand for a number of Northwest jazz, rock and r&b bands.
