Cam K and the Fellowship Group relate wholeheartedly to the idea of National Unity and the hearty fellowship of communities all over the nation. In this album, they respond to the experiences that led up to the inauguration of an African American President, and the wave of enthusiasm at national level that followed the event. The production is cultural in it's orientation and uses a poetic rap interspersed with song snatches that is aimed at creating in the listeners' imagination the events and occurrences vividly described. From the first piece, Barack Obama that describes campaign highlights of the Obama vs McCain contest to the fact of what it purports: American Unity is on it's way, as portrayed by 'American Unity Cock A' Crow, the album seeks to establish an infectious rhythmic environment in which to create the magic of an atmosphere inspired by the achievement of Barack Obama in becoming the first African American President of the United States. It also does so in a story environment that is both humorous, informative and entertaining, underlining the underlying sense of unity created. The cultural element is emphasized with a Carib Pledge Song that makes the point whatever our cultural origin, we are all part of one nation, whose bitter political divisions shrink in the sense of our oneness as one people, not only nationally, but globally. Thus the venue begins at the United Nations, but the sound of Carib type drums and the reiteration of Carib language speak of different men and women, but all part of one nation, and of the world, bearing witness to the global acclaim itself of Barack Obama's achievement. In Pull Man, Pull, the physical backdrop of the piece is a scene in which the main character is stranded in a boat on the wide ocean, far way from the shore, with only two oars to use to save himself. The story then shows how the internalized experience of a Presidential aimed experience can produce the dynamic necessary to reach the goal, the shore. Battle Cry is a tribute to the newest American Battle ship Aircraft Carrier, and the perceptions it inspires in a seemingly ordinary citizen, a humble boatman, who sees the ship as the people's ship, while the main character sees it as a new American creation for an era of new responsibility as well as continued security. Unity Time Gal is a song about a young man who since the inauguration sees the girl he admires in a new light of united romantic love and unity that soar to great heights like the eagle. For him this sense of unity means that uniting in love can help to make the nation whole. All in all, an album with an infectious rhythm that suggests not only entertainment but a distinct party atmosphere. Three cheers to Cam K and the Fellowship group for this uniting effort.
