Neighborhood of Secrets
From the voice of Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter's background singer comes an album that will captivate and draw you into a story of struggle, humor and triumph. It's told from the perspective of a young girl trying to break free from the rural Pentecostal upbringing of her mother and surviving the confusing and at times dangerous influence of her free-living father. From a small town in the great San Joaquin Valley in central California, to the streets of Hollywood and ultimately the stages of the infamous "Outlaw" movement and beyond, Carter Robertson takes you on her journey of coming of age. Through powerful musical performances of original songs with a band that makes you want to turn up the volume so you won't miss a single note and poignant, humorous "spoken word" segments you'll find yourself transported as though you were living it all in real time. Carter is no stranger to the music community, singing on such hits as Waylon's 'Are You Ready For the Country', 'Come With Me' and 'Luckenbach Texas' to name a few. During the outlaw years she backed up Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter both on the road and in the studio. Some of her studio credits include working with James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Graham Nash, Don Was and many others. In the late 90's she joined back up with old friends to form the Waymore Blues Band, which toured and recorded with Waylon and Jessi once again. This album is based on a book she is finishing which includes not only her early years of running away from a past that was always close on her heels but also her unique place in history with the "Outlaw" movement and her work with other artists along the way.
