Return the Favor (EP)
Cheka is the group name adopted by Louis Epstein, one of NYC's new rising stars. Born in 1978 in northern New Jersey, Louis taught himself how to sing and play guitar while accompanying his favorite records. He continued to play through school, and after college recorded an acoustic demo CD, landing him shows at the Knitting Factory, Living Room and others. Louis hooked up with Paul Parreira, who was promoting a new music showcase at Joe's Pub. The two agreed to collaborate on a version of 'Sleeping In Denmark,' one of the highlights of Louis's demo. This eventually resulted in the debut Cheka EP, Return The Favor, the first release on Parreira's Brooklyn-based, new label General Assembly Music. A second and third EP are in the works. Louis continues to perform solo acoustic gigs while putting together a five-piece touring band.
