Product Notes

Chikwendu's PRESIKI DA MMA: One Story in Six Tracks. By Ndu Francis Anike Artist: Chikwendu Anyanwu Album Title: Presiki Da Mma Singers: Boniface Akpan, Onyedika Ekweribe, Ulumma Ruth Opara, Chirimma Anurunkem. Soundtracks: Ugochukwu and Boniface Akpan Recording: Sonex Muzikraft Studio, Owerri, Nigeria. Mastering: Swift Solutions, London, UK. Producer: Chikwendu Anyanwu Chikwendu Anyanwu loves music and he loves storytelling. As a marriage counselor, he has always brought these two - music and story - to love and work like a matching couple. So he did with his Christmas album, Song of God's Children in 2005, and now here is even a more compelling one to hear: 'Presiki Da Mma'. What does this mean? Mystery Language? Well, love is a mystery and so is the language. 'Presiki Da Mma' could mean anything beautiful or lovely. It is one love story told in six music tracks, from the admonitions about marriage through it's ratification to it's actual consummation with the lucky one. All you need to do is play the entire album and you will have been given a great gist to spice up your love relationship. The album is named after the track, 'Presiki Da Mma' - an onomatopoeic phrase meant to reflect the sense of a bride's joyful psychedelic steps. In other words, 'Presiki Da Mma' does not belong to any particular language even though within the phrase is 'Mma', an Igbo word meaning 'beauty', which is normally associated with a bride. It is a language of the body, not of the mouth; though within seconds, the mouth gets naturally involved as it starts rolling out the engaging refrain: "La, la, presiki da mma...!" The track pulls you up from your seat to a swing, a gentle sweet wiggling, reminiscent of those movements of a new bride. This album has a universal appeal not only because it is in Igbo and English languages but because, it celebrates true love. Again, it has a combination of different beats, including reggae, folk, pop and Igbo highlife. I found the story of my love search in Track 5, "Ije Mu na Love", making it my favorite by default. Beyond that however, Chikwendu's poetic talent pulled it's weight in this track. It is a story with a happy ending - a moonlight romance which describes the bride as 'my star in the night, shinning like the best of stars; her eyes are like diamonds.' Recorded with some of the best voices East of the Niger, including Onyedika Ekweribe and Ulumma Ruth Opara whose descant takes in Nwakaego's album, "Mma Mma", were breathtaking, this album, "Presiki Da Mma", brings to you music with mission and purpose as it enhances the peace of the atmosphere where it is played. F. Ndu Anike, 2008.
