Age of Innocents
Age of Innocents is a special collection of original songs, written, composed and performed by teenagers and young adults from six different Churches of God in the Greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. Christian recording artist and producer David P. Stevens and Youth Ministers of the Delaware Valley Youth Ministry Coalition (a group of concerned youth leaders who came together in 2006 to respond to the challenges facing young people in Philadelphia) conceived the music project as a way for young people to cope with the pressures of urban life and communicate the love of God to other young people their age. For three months, from August to October 2008, Stevens and the Youth Leaders gathered groups of teens and young adults to discuss problems facing urban families and youth, and using their own experiences and Biblical passages, the young people created poetry, wrote songs and composed the music for the project. Stevens and the Delaware Valley Youth Ministry Coalition designed the music project to serve as a mentoring tool, giving them the opportunity to spend time with young people and help them understand the spiritual, emotional and social needs of contemporary youth culture. Throughout the course of the project the young people created songs designed to convince their peers that despite the emotional weight of urban blight, faith in God and a connection to the life transforming work of Christ Jesus gives young men and women the internal resources to rise above debilitating self doubt and the ability to overcome the most trying circumstances. As they responded to the challenges facing urban youth through poetry and music, the young people increased their sense of compassion for their generation and discovered that when used thoughtfully and prayerfully, their voices, gifts and talents have the potential to impact young hearts and minds. The young people are empowered and excited about what they created-a CD by young people... for young people. One hundred percent (100%) of the proceeds from the sale of Age of Innocents will be used for future youth development efforts and special projects, such as scholarships, conferences and / or future music and arts projects that directly benefit young people. The current CD project is JUST THE BEGINNING! In the future, Producer David P. Stevens and the Youth Ministers of the Delaware Valley Youth Ministry Coalition plan to continue to empower young people by enabling them to create their own youth development tools. We believe that when given the opportunity, young people can be powerful agents of change; they are not only the problem solvers of the future, but they are the ministers of today!
