Beyond the Shore
When Chris was 14 years old a girl gave him a poem she had written and asked him to put it to music. He said, 'I don't know how.' She assured him he could, so he did, and she liked it. He's been writing songs ever since. 'Hanging out with teenagers all the time gives me a lot to write about.' Chris works with teens and has a pretty cool thing called JAM which happens every Saturday night. Hundreds of kids come to hang out in the youth center and jam with the Jam band. They also come every Wendesday night to worship with Chris' band. 'These kids are going through so much, and it's satisfying to give them a place to enjoy some great music, have fun, and experience the power of God's presence.' Chris has a deep passion for leading others into an intimate worship experience with God. Music is so powerful and helps us open our mind and heart to God in a mysterious way. It is evident that Chris writes songs with the heart of one who truly loves to worship God, and lead others into that experience. His debut album, 'Beyond the Shore', includes a lot of the songs that are now being sung by hundreds of people in worship settings. 'Kids tell me they go to sleep listening to my music', says Chris. 'That's a pretty cool thought that I can help someone worship all the time, not just at Jam or a camp or concert'. Whether you are hearing these songs live, or listening to the CD, you can't help but be drawn into the presence of God through Chris' music. Chris is married and has three kids. A love of music runs deep in this family. His daughter Sara, 15 years old, sings with him on five tracks. Their vocal blend is outstanding, the father daughter thing really works. On one track his wife and all his brothers and sisters join in to add a nice choir sound to 'Give Thanks'. Chris also taps into the youthful energy of his youth group as they scream 'It's Good to be Young' on the second track. Mixed in with the 12 songs on the album are four short clips from live youth worship recordings. The unpolished youth group voices are caught up in sincere passionate worship, and add a refreshing dimension to the album. Along with worship songs, Chris writes catchy tunes that express some of the incredible lessons he has learned while in the trenches of youth ministry. Chris has a creative way of portraying a life lesson while writing about an event (like a Mexico work project to Tijuana, a friends motor cycle accident, or a backpacking trip on a deserted island). You'll start your day singing these tunes in the shower, and they stay with you all day long!
