In the Meantime
In the Meantime... By Andrea Upchurch - The Clarion/E-Xpress Here we are on this earth waiting for Jesus to come back for us; life is what we do in the meantime. This is how the name for the new Christ Church CD came about. Not only is it an interim project until the Originals 2005 CD is released, but it is a testament to what God is doing at Christ Church and in the lives of the songwriters as Christ prepares a place for us in our eternal heavenly home. In the Meantime is a labor of love, so to speak: the love and musical passion of each writer and a brilliant reflection of God's love for each of us. In the Meantime, released in early December 2004, is a collaboration of four artists: Brian Greene, Karen Elgin, Keith Elgin, and Lisa Zimmer. 'We thought about how God has placed us each here on earth to bring Him glory and to honor Him until we see Him face to face,' Brian says, 'So, we are all here on earth 'in the meantime' worshipping Him until that day. Very fitting title...' In speaking with each singer/songwriter, it is evident that this effort was never about any of them, but the inspirations that God has laid on their hearts. Keith wrote the title track. He says that Brian jokingly asked him to write a song that would fit with the concept 'in the meantime.' Keith confesses that he hadn't written anything in a while because he just couldn't find the words. Apparently, this song was meant to be, because when Keith sat down the following week, the words flowed, and the lyrics were written in less than 20 minutes. 'I had no idea at the time of writing the song that a month or two later I would be in the studio recording it, and it's just amazing to me how God used me,' he proclaims. Karen is also excited about her involvement in the project and says, 'I feel like God continues to take the music ministry at Christ Church to another level. As we continue to seek His will, desire, and purpose, He continues to give us the words and music to write. It's so humbling to be used in such an amazing way, and to know that people are moved by the music.' Karen and Brian were inspired to write 'The Passion' after viewing Mel Gibson's controversial film. Those of us who saw it realize that it is difficult to put into words how we felt after watching the graphic crucifixion of the Savior, but Karen and Brian are able to delicately express their emotions through music. Brian's song 'You Are' and Lisa and Brian's collaboration 'I Just Want to Praise You' were recently entered in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest sponsored by the Songwriters' Association of Washington. Both songs received an Honorable Mention in the Gospel/Contemporary Christian/Inspirational category. This acclaim has not gone to Lisa's head. She revealed that 'I Just Want to Praise You' was written under unique circumstances that assured her that God does speak to her directly. Again, it only took about 20 minutes to pen the lyrics, and it might have taken less time had Lisa been able to write as quickly as God was delivering the words. 'I've never had an experience like this before in my life, and it was nothing short of awesome!' Lisa shares. 'To be in God's presence is like nothing else I've ever experienced, and I was definitely humbled.' Brian sums it up best when he says of In the Meantime, 'My prayer is that God will use this project to bring glory to His name, and that it will be a reflection of His love for us and inspire all who hear it to want to grow closer to Him.'
