Way of the World
Christine Marie Berkowitz grew up in the quaint village of Nyack, N.Y. where she enjoyed an active childhood. She wrote and performed her first song while in kindergarten and fell madly in love with performing. She has since devoted her life to understanding the human condition through study of self, wellness, nutrition and free open expression as a dancer, singer, actor, and writer. Christine Marie has always been a fierce competitor. At the age of 9 she enrolled in gymnastics training, and by the age of 11 she was competing as a member of the elite gymnastic team at her school, for which she won numerous metals and ribbons. The award she remembers most vividly was rewarded for 'best competitive spirit'. While in middle school Christine enrolled in the church choir where she learned to sing as part of an ensemble. Christine Marie brings this same drive and desire for personal excellence to her creative endeavors and to the guidance and development of her entertainment company, O.V. Enterprises, Inc. In 1989 she enrolled in the prestigious Drama Studies program at SUNY Purchase Performing Arts College. At SUNY Purchase, she produced her first full-length show called Taking Myself Seriously . This show was created through an in depth look at her own personal growth and her interpersonal interactions with the people in her life. It was here at SUNY Purchase that she learned the connection between personal growth and interactive self - expression. The show was a smashing success and foreshadowed the inspiration and healing potential she had as a writer, performer and producer. After college, Christine Marie went to New York City to further her training. To this end, she enrolled at the Phil Gussee Studio with renowned acting coach Joanna Beckson, (acting coaching to Ray Romono Everybody Loves Raymond) where she immersed herself in intensive Meisner based training for 2 years. Never satisfied with theoretical undertakings, during this period of study she was one of seven actors that founded The Hypothetical Theatre Company as a forum to write act, and produce in a professional, New York City setting. As one of the principle founders, she was instrumental to the production of over 5 plays including the critically acclaimed Eight for Eight, a series of short plays from the Louisiana Play Festival. In addition to starring in and producing many of the company's productions, she also served as the company's Director of Development - generating operating funds through fund raisers and corporate sponsorships, and issuing press releases and coordinating public relations. The Hypothetical Theatre Company still exists and is in residence at the 14th street YMCA. The New York Times and The Daily News have favorably reviewed the company's work over the years, enabling it to become a centerpiece within the off-off Broadway community. Besides her work with the Hypothetical Theater Company, Christine Marie has appeared in numerous stage, film and television productions. Most notably, she appeared in 'Howard Sterns Private Parts' which was produced by Paramount Pictures, and in 'Affairs of the Heart' which was a made for cable film produced for Cinemax. In addition to these popular films, she appeared on the extremely successful NBC series 'Law and Order', and won a number of principal roles in television commercials. In 1997 Christine Marie directed her experience as a producer and performer towards creating O.V. Entertainment . Her first effort under the O.V. mantle was a series of variety shows that showcased the talent of herself and her collaborators. The variety shows enabled her to hone her writing, directing and producing skills while working with artists from diverse backgrounds. This experience led directly to the formation of O.V. Enterprise's vision of multi-cultural, edifying entertainment - the ethos through which O.V. exists. She mounted shows at various venues including: XandO Coffee Shop O.V. at XANDO O.V.
