Mother & Child Songs of Christmas
'With a dash of humor and a heaping dose of humanity, Craig Richey cuts through this seasonal madness and delivers a truly unexpected gift - the tangible sense of being loved.' -- Darren Frei, IN Los Angeles Magazine 'Delicious new Christmas pop! Gushometer off the scale on this one!' -- Richard Banks, Christmasreviews.com From the liner notes: 'Six or so years ago I was walking down eighth ave in NY a few days after Christmas and saw a little Christmas tree that had been tossed in the gutter. It was covered with snow and looked cold and lonely and forgotten. I was so moved by this image and I thought about the noble service this precious tree had just completed - to be cut down, decorated and lit up - only to be discarded so ungratefully. This began a series of songs I have written inspired by Christmas. After the first they seemed to just gently drift down to earth one after another. The songs reflect my feelings about Christmas: a time of love, wonder, wistfulness, and a deep connection to the past, in this life and others. I have been intrigued by it's opposing and haunting landscapes: snowy fields and desert sands and how alike they look under a starlit sky. It is my belief that the true heart of the story is the celebration of birth and the divinity of all new beings as they enter this world. It is a celebration as old as birth itself. May all infants be welcomed with homage, adoration, and the recognition that they have come to save us. 'Two Crows' is especially dear to me. It was inspired by a young woman whose five year old son is recognized by Buddhist Monks as their reincarnated teacher. She faithfully agrees to let the boy go with the monks to Nepal to follow this destiny. It seemed like the same story.'
