Despite the Dark
About Curt Sauer: I was born in Loveland, Colorado, adopted two weeks later, and within two years, my parents 'bought' me a brother to torture when we moved to South Carolina. (Love ya, Chris!) My parents divorced before I was ten, and my mother, brother, and I moved from the beautiful backwoods of Clemson to the beautiful suburbia of Charleston. The divorce hit me very hard, and I had a difficult time adjusting to my new life, friends, and home. I spent the next few years spiraling down into a quagmire of poor choices. Drugs, alcohol and self-destruction typically occupied my time. The only solace I had was in music. I can't describe the peace and happiness it gave me, but the most important gift I received from music was proof of something greater; I just wasn't sure what that greatness was. God was with me even then. I say even then because I was so ignorant of the gospel, I couldn't have told you the difference between Noah and Moses. This remained the case until just a few years ago. After marrying my best friend and starting our family, my wife suggested attending a little church that had started near where she was employed. After attending a couple of Sunday services, casual disinterest turned into a passion for God. I asked Him to use me to further His kingdom. Along with actively serving in the music ministry at that same church, I felt led to record the collection of songs and stories that became Despite the Dark. This CD is very special to me. Not just because it is my first, or that it took scraping up nickels and dimes over a three year period with my wonderful wife and three beautiful children to complete, but primarily because I know it isn't truly mine. The music is a result of gifts and lessons provided by God for His purpose alone. I am extremely honored to dedicate it to Him and hope it blesses you as well. About Despite the Dark: Despite the Dark is Curt Sauer's debut album. This rock gospel project is rooted in rock-influenced melodies with rich, deep vocals. The story-based lyrics reflect spiritual inspiration gained through the daily struggle. It is easy to be distracted by the immediate consequences of 'doing life', but in doing so, we can easily overlook the lessons that help us to grow, heal, and strengthen others through our example. When we focus on the love offered to us, even when it is disguised as pain and discomfort, we can then celebrate all of God's blessings despite the dark.
