Dana Atherton, jazz pianist and composer, is a longtime San Francisco resident. Dana got his start on the S.F. Bay Area jazz scene as a sideman with John Handy's Hard Work band at the height of Handy's crossover hit, 'Hard Work'. As well, Dana spent three years at the legendary Keystone Korner jazz club as the Saturday afternoon house pianist accompanying visiting artists and local jazz players. Currently Dana serves as resident pianist and artistic director at the Jardiniere restaurant and nightclub in San Francisco. Formerly Kimball's West jazz club, it is now an internationally renowned restaurant and jazz nightspot in the middle of the city's civic and cultural center. Critic Jesse Hamlin of the San Francisco Chronicle has written, ' Dana's original compositions actually sound original.' And Chick Corea has said of Dana's music,' the arrangements are first rate!'. Dana has three CD's out on the independent label, Athertunes, the most recent release being a live piano and bass duo recording from Jardiniere, in 2003 called 'Two Top'.
