David Box is currently living in Los Angeles playing professionally and teaching. Mr. Box is Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies at La Sierra University in Riverside California. After studying in the Southern California area with Charles Richard he went onto receive his Masters in Saxophone Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, studing under Harvey Pittel. His playing carreer spans many genres with an emphasis in classical and jazz saxophone and woodwind doubling. His first jazz album has just been released titled 'Transformation' and his next release will be a classical album of new saxophone works titled 'Music of my Friends'. As a woodwind doubler Mr. Box has performed over 20 different musicals including West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Into The Woods, Music Man, and many more. Performing is only a small part of David's life because he feels that teaching is crucial to his development as a player. He believes, 'Teaching defines our individual approach to music. It helps us center our ideas and grow through the process of sharing them. As a result you get to watch the growth of others and analyze the effects that your beliefs have upon them. This process fullfills the circle of giving back to others what was once given to you, while surprisingly enough, you passivly receive more than you could ever have asked for in return.' Mr. Box has recently been married on June 26th to his wife Jill who is completing a Masters in Bassoon Performance at the University of Southern California.
