As a songwriter, I draw on ideas that come into my head at the oddest times: while in the shower, while driving, even while sleeping. The lyrics need to tell a story, and often it's a humorous story. For example, a vanity plate on the car in front of me in a traffic jam read 'Boris,' and that gave rise to a modern day Russian love story about Boris and Natasha. My newest CD, Strung Out, contains many songs about male-female relationships, not always funny. The music is composed to fit the lyric, and this is why my music necessarily crosses many genres. I multi-track my recordings, singing all the vocal parts and playing all the instruments, but I often have a 'guest star' record a track or two on my songs when they can play it better than me.
