Welcome Back to the Same Old Me
Welcome Back to the Same Old Me is David Manchel's first full-length solo work. Manchel is a singer-songwriter based in Detroit, who has been composing music since the age of 13. His earliest influences were the Beach Boys, and the Monkees; however, it is obvious that Manchel was heavily influenced by the British sounds coming from bands like the Who and the Kinks. You will also hear a distinctive folk-element to some of Manchel's songs, who consistently tries to find and typically succeeds in capturing a strong emotional element in his music. His songs are about searching, yearning, and the eternal quest of the incomplete person. Brian Smith of the Detroit Metro Times wrote, 'See, as it turns out, this guy David Manchel is a student of great songwriters, a student of great songs. So much so that he approaches both with a careful eye and considerate sense of time and place.' Manchel's songs have received national airplay and been featured on NPR's Open Mic series. 'One Swell Foop' was used in the film 'Big Momma's House 2', and 'Tonight We Go to the Show' was picked up by the Burberry Company in Tokyo.
