Live Recording 2008 is the 3rd 'New Retro' vinyl style CD release by The Debbie Curtis Radio Big Band who are proud to be considered by many as the UK's Top Jazz & Swing Big Band The CD comprises 13 Live Tracks including a guest vocal from Glenn Macnamara on the track Leroy Brown! About The Band................. A standing ovation at the world famous 'London Palladium' says it all really, however....... With a music library of over 1000 titles the band covers the music of all the greats from then until now, including, but not exclusively, Miller, Basie, Kenton, Heath, Dorsey, Herman, etc! From 'Tuxedo Junction' to 'The Pink Panther' and onwards. Even Robbie Williams gets a look in with hit arrangements from the album 'Swing When You're Winning' Rising Swing Star Debbie Curtis, affectionately known as 'The Mistress of Swing' has taken her late father Eddie's 17 piece band to even greater achievements with a fantastic line-up of top UK musicians as well as featured guest vocalists and dancers for live performances! Debbie is also unique as the UK's only fully professional female Big Band Leader! The Beginning with Eddie Curtis.................. The original band was founded as long ago as 1972 by Debbie's dad, renowned Trombonist and Music Arranger Eddie Curtis. Eddie had played with many of the great bands of the 40's and 50's, was an arranger for the BBC as well as numerous major London publishing companies and consequently Debbie was brought up on Big Band music as he travelled the UK performing nearly every night of the week! Then Debbie Took Over................. When Eddie died suddenly in 1993, Debbie, literally 'inherited' his band, but by then she had the qualifications to front it with passion and confidence. An accomplished professional musician and singer in her own right, Debbie plays piano and guitar plus numerous other instruments and can also sight read music. She'd also learnt a great deal from her dad as well as her mother Joy, also in the business, who had enjoyed a successful career as a top radio and studio session singer! Debbie Changed Things.............. Not satisfied being purely a working band, Debbie has since completely re-structured the band with a view to attracting new audiences, her quote 'Putting the BIG back in BAND! She's recently brought in many new, younger and immensely talented musicians, plus her own dance troupe for live performances as well as era re-enactors such as 'Viv the Spiv' and other military and civilian characters! The result............. A fantastic line-up of musicians, top quality performances, and perhaps most importantly of all, Concerts became a show that grabs the attention of all age groups! Not just performing though, Debbie also has a passion for the history of the music she grew up with; she's built up a huge collection of books on Big Band Music & Leaders and is becoming something of an expert on the subject! Additionally, Debbie and her management team have modernized the marketing of Big Band, a bright and detailed website with access to 100's of pictures and sound samples plus MySpace and YouTube profiles was just the start! Their efforts have paid off, the band website at the time of writing this has had nearly 160,000 hits and MySpace in excess of 19,000 hits, 13,000 track plays and 6500 new fans and this continues to grow! Press & Radio................... The band has firmly established themselves amongst the top Big Bands with recent UK national press and radio interviews reaching in excess of 14 million people. From national to local radio, the band are enjoying more and more airplay.
