Third Times a Charm
Spokane has been described as a city that fosters unappreciated musical talent and Derby is the band that will break that mold to put Washington's 'second city' on the map. What began as a gift for brothers Andy and Brad Rumsey of 3 hours in College Road Recording Studio has exploded into a national touring act which has shared a stage with such names as Blondie, Foghat, Twisted Sister, the Psychedelic Furs, and Vince Neil in little more than a year! The current lineup was forged out of need when their original bassist walked away from the band as they were set to record their self-titled debut, but the four-piece has grown into a tight powerful unified band which crosses demographic and stylistic lines to deliver a high energy blast that is as melodic and infectious as it is rocking. With more than 100 tunes in their repertoire, Derby is able to deliver a different show every night and keep the crowd pumped for each second they are on stage. While they have been compared favorably to some of today's best know acts, Derby has a sound that is all their own. Bios: Andy Rumsey (main songwriter, singer, guitarist) - While he began his musical journey by playing bells in 5th grade and later branching into percussion and drums, Andy has found his calling as a songwriter, guitarist, and singer. More than the band's frontman, he is it's driving force. He is really excited about the collaborative process and thinks that the fans and the music will benefit from the new material. Brad Rumsey (drummer) - Another early starter, Brad's first instrument (also in 5th grade) was clarinet. He shifted to bass clarinet and finally to drums. His growth as a player has been incredible and he has come to love the environment of the studio because he can actually hear the progress he makes. Like his brother, Brad thrives on the energy that Derby produces and loves his role as the engine of the juggernaut. Brad Kessler (guitarist, singer) - Starting on viola and cymbals in 5th grade (does anyone notice a theme here?), Brad has been described as a natural musician. When he joined the band the amount of material that he was given to learn would have sent lesser players running for the hills, but Brad has met the challenge and continues to amaze everyone with his ability to pick up tunes and perform them in no time. Greg Campbell (bassist, singer) - The group's veteran, Greg has wielded his 9 string bass all over the country in styles so diverse there isn't room here to mention them all. He has brought his eclectic background and thrown it into the mix to give the band a foundation so firm that it can survive any musical shock thrown their way.
