Derek Hansen's Crossroad
With over 20 years experience and hundreds of performances under my belt I still marvel at the power of a song, the beauty of a lyric, the complexity of a melody. The language of music both consumes and captivates me. After having lead over 500 worship services I am amazed every week as I see the power of God working in the lives of His people through music. In 2006 we began work on the Sidewalk Closed project. Life is tough and the world can be cruel and unforgiving. The message of the music is peace, hope, love and salvation. The songs on this project reflect where I was in my relationship with Christ, what He was teaching me, and what I was going through each day. There were moments of great temptation and the song Midst of it all was born. God's mercy and grace reached far beyond my ability to understand, and the song Let Mercy Reign found a home. At the end of everyday I was tired, and felt beaten. In my weakness it became clear to me that walking with Christ is difficult and Come to the Cross was penned. "Come you who are weary", that was me! I was hungry, I was thirsty. I found strength for my soul and healing for my spirit at the Cross of Christ. The song "Can You Hear Me Now", while tragic in a sense that it is about suicide, it also reflects how we fail to reach out to those in need. It is not so much about what you say as it is about what you do. This was the idea behind the song Saddle Up. Finally the song Brand New Day speaks about living for God and doing the best we can day to day, knowing that Gods grace is sufficient and tomorrow is a brand new day. Where I was last year is not where I am today. What an awesome ride! I am excited about the new project "Sinners Welcome". The songs in this project are a celebration of where I am today in my journey with Christ. So, it's time to go back to the studio and get the new songs for the Sinners Welcome project recorded. You can catch "unplugged\' versions of some of the new songs on Godtube and Youtube. As a worship leader it has been my desire to lead and encourage others in their relationship with Christ. The majority of songs I have written are relative to my own personal journey. In every stage of my life as I have surrendered and let God be in control He has showed up in a personal and powerful way. May you ever be encouraged as a son or daughter of the King. My musical influences are as vast as my musical tastes; everything from Led Zeppelin, Garth Brooks, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, Elton John, Barry Manilow, Ozzy Ozbourne, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen, Bach, Mozart, Aerosmith, Michael W. Smith, Chris Tomlin, AC/DC, Rascal Flatts, John Cougar Mellancamp, Mercy Me, Tool, G and R, Kenny Loggins and Lester Chambers to name a few.
