In a crowded, but cozy Philadelphia venue one night, the comment is made, 'She has the voice of an angel.' A nearby listener replies with a smile, 'Yeah, but I wouldn't say there's anything angelic about her lyrics.' Singer/songwriter, Diane Devlin, seems to enjoy being a curiosity. She is a clever artist who candidly writes about real life and then embeds her words in solid musicianship. Diane Devlin looks around the world and writes it like it is. Her lyrics are 100% genuine personal perception and her presence on stage let's you know she's proud of it. Devlin's talents exceed songwriting and singing. She is a natural guitar player, having learned on an acoustic 12-string long before ever owning a 6-string. Her playing style is honest and, when performing solo, reminiscent of a '60's folk artist. Devlin's band has grown since 1995. Starting out as an acoustic duo, Devlin and a lead guitarist toured their local Philadelphia area for two years. It wasn't until 1997, when they 'borrowed' a band to record their debut album, that the decision was made to establish a group. Billings after that typically read The Diane Devlin Band. Currently, the band is promoting their new album, Tidal Moon, which was released in July, 2001. The album is diverse in nature, mixing folk and pop sounds with funk and rock. It even concludes with a knee slapping country tune that listeners are least expecting.
