Product Notes

The Disparities' third LP combines literate and melodic songwriting with lush, moody soundscapes of guitar and vintage synthesizer, channeling the bright heat and anxiety of not-so-peaceful summers in the boys' hometown. The songs, inspired by everything from 1929 photographs to a line from Vladimir Nabokov, vary from sparse to symphonic, stately to snarling, maintaining a tension between organic and synthetic sounds. 'This album is for those of us who get bored easily. I don't care how popular or acclaimed an album is, 9 out of 10 times I've lost interest by the 3rd or 4th song. No More Beautiful Days keeps you listening. On the other hand, this isn't one of those hyper-intellectual messes in which the artist is trying to convince us he doesn't care what we think.... while glancing up to see if we're impressed by his big words and schizophrenic style. The Disparties consists of 3 brothers from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho - Oliver, Julian, and Harrison Lemke. Each brother writes, sings, and plays a variety of instruments which may help to explain why each song is excitingly unique while the entire album remains coherent. The sound? First off - they're their own men - they're not copying anyone. But to get something that tastes similar, try this recipe: 1/4 cup The Shins 2 tablespoons of Sufjan Stevens a teaspoon of Fleet Foxes a dash of Brian Wilson blend the above with some lo-fi synth sounds, a banjo and violin, and a sprinkling of pop/rock and bake for an hour Overall, the music is eclectic without being pretentious -- creative but easy to listen to. The lyrics are intelligent without being obnoxious -- poetic without being sappy. Short on time and want just a taste? Listen to Ivory and The Wreck first. If you like these you'll love the album.' -- The Gopher Review http://www.publications.tunegopher.net .
