After 11 years of the Nashville music scene, Don Dendy needed a break. He had achieved minor success in landing occasional studio work, a few small record cuts, and touring coast to coast with top 40 acts. But Don never got the big record deal he had dreamed about. Late nights in smoky bars, playing pop hits of every style, was wearing him down and burning him out. So in the spring of 1996, Don moved back to his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to get away from it all. Don, a born again Christian, recommitted his music to his Saviour and doors began to open. After leading worship in his church, and playing piano dates, Don turned back to his passion, writing original music. Don's music stems from his own spiritual journey, and how God saved this 42 year old from the deepest pits of addiction, depression, and hopelessness. Don's debut CD, 'It's You', carries this message of hope and freedom in Christ in all of the uniquely crafted 10 songs on the project. Don plays keyboards, sings, and has written or co-written these songs that are very diverse in musical style, yet so similar in message. Local producer/percussionist, John Kliner, helped Don produce the CD, which releases in August 2002. Kliner has a very impressive track record of engineering records by Tiffany, Patty Loveless, and Pam Tillis. Coming from a musical family, Don started playing piano at age 5. At age 10 he was learning to play by ear and playing note for note the songs he heard on the radio. Don's musical influences are many. He grew up listening to the Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, Chicago, ToTo, and anything produced by David Foster. His favorite gospel singers are Michael English and Gary Oliver. Don and his wife, GiGi, live in Northport, Alabama, along with their two dogs, Scarlett, a Scotty, and Jelly Bean, a Japanese Chen. Don wants his listeners to take heart and believe in the life-changing power of Jesus Christ. He knows this power firsthand after being delivered from drugs, alcohol, and sexual addictions. He has a unique story. The CD, 'It's You', tells of his journey, and proves yet again there is victory in Jesus.
