The Kansas City Turnpikes were a great Kansas City based rhythm and blues band led by Alex Littlejohn, better known as King Alex, a career musician who performed at regional and national blues and jazz festivals. He performed with the late Tommy Soul, Lester "Wizard" King, Albert Collins, B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lawrence Wright and the Outlets, Leon Estelle, "Little-Joe" Robinson and Claude "Fiddler" Williams - just to name a few. He is known for being the first African-American bassist to play an electric bass in Kansas City. Featured here is an ultra rare single from The Kansas City Turnpikes originally released in 1959 on the New York City based Angletone Records label. "Douglas Blues (Part I)" b/w "Douglas Blues (Part II)" is presented here newly remastered and finally made available in the digital domain for this exclusive release. .
