The Douglas James Band hails from Southwest Michigan. The band was formed in 2004 by Douglas James. The focus of the band is to provide audiences with an escape from the day to day grind. The band puts on a show that changes from night to night depending on the audience. Audience birthdays are celebrated, bachelorette parties are made special, guest musicians jam with the band, alligators pose for photo ops. Anything goes with this band. Primarily a Country band, the musicians come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds and are competent in many styles. After the first job the band played, Douglas, a competent guitar player in his own right, deciced to add an additional guitar player to the band in order to focus on fronting the band. In doing so Douglas found not only a great guitarist, but also a musical partner-in-crime in Bruce 'Smooth Melon' Shockley, a transplant from the Nashville musical community. Much of the recording and arranging on the debut CD 'Boondocky' was completed by the duo with Bruce's musical experience being a conduit for Douglas's Ideas. Most of the songs on this album are a product of Douglas James' songwriting efforts back to 1996 through the final week of mixing, as the last song came after the majority of the album was complete. The title track 'Boondocky' is a colaboration with Bassist Kurt Huckendubler and Bruce. Though Douglas plays most of the drum tracks, Kim Burco, the bands live drummer; adds his talents to three of the tracks. Describing the band with using a 'sounds like' statement is very difficult. You be the judge.
