Work No More
Hailing from Seattle, WA a city known for gourmet coffee, grunge rock & computer technology Down Since Day One (DSD-ONE) sets out to let the world know about the unique urban music revolution happening in their own backyards. Seattle has long been known for setting trends with rock music & technology but little is spoken about the urban & black music roots that have thrived in times past. "There is another chapter to the evolution of urban music waiting to be told and we want to be positioned at the forefront of this next cycle", says Willi Stylez M.C. & producer for DSD-ONE. "We want to utilize today's technology to reach audiences once impossible due to the high costs of global marketing. Technology is the great equalizer for independent artists and Seattle seems like the perfect place to spawn this New Music Revolution." DSD-ONE's first offering is a Soundtrack to an independent film titled 'Cultivated' written and directed entirely by band member Mic. Brown. Cultivated is based on the real life experiences of independent hip hop & urban artists and the choices these young artists must make once their act becomes more than just living room entertainment. It's a tale of the benefits and repercussions one must endure at the expense of "Keeping It Real" and staying true to ones self. The Cultivated Soundtrack is a moody organic fusion of Hip Hop, R&B & Soul sprinkled with poignant rap lyrics and rich vocal harmonies. Thick drum tracks and deep buttery bass lines set the landscape of the Soundtrack highlighted by seasonal instrumentation from local Seattle musicians such as Darrius Willrich & Emil Robinson. Producer & M.C. Willi Stylez makes his impression felt while touching each track with clever arrangements and sweet soulful melodies. He extends his range by also dropping heart felt lyrics that sit perfectly atop each track. Willi Stylez teamed up with Seattle underground music great Lari Sims to co-produce a portion of the Soundtrack. Lari Sims most recent credits include work with Digable Planets member Butterfly and his new band Cherry Wine. The first single from the soundtrack 'Work No More' features Daddy O, lead member of the legendary Hip Hop group Stetsasonic. For those who don'tdont remember Stetsasonic, they were major pioneers of early Hip Hop music and better known for their innovative blending of Jazz & Hip Hop. They were also major contributors to the 'Stop the Violence' movement which later brought together the talents of many rap artists including the likes of KRS-One, Public Enemy, & MC Lyte to create the socially conscious rap song and video 'Self Destruction.' 'This soundtrack lies at the heart of who I am as a creative individual. I don't make music just to make music. When I sit down to create it's because I feel the need to express something going on around or inside me. It's at times a very personal process. Each one of the pieces on this soundtrack represents significant points of my life. A lot of the tracks are almost 10 years old but I held on to them because I felt like each one had a purpose that I am just now beginning to discover. Reflecting on each piece of music reminds me of where I came from and what I was going through at that time. This project, although not initially known at the time of creation, has been a life long process. It's only fitting that it be put into the scope of a soundtrack. It's a soundsound track to my life.'
