Product Notes

Earnest began playing at an early age. At the age of sixteen, Earnest had the privilege of performing with the late, great international recording artist Jimmy Reed in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida. While coming up through high school, Earnest formed a band and performed for most high school functions throughout the community. As he advanced in music he was highly accepted for his talent, where as he performed in all major night clubs traveling throughout the south with constant sellouts in which he was noted for his amazing harmonica playing and natural vocal style, which has made him somewhat of a legend in his hometown. Earnest and his band became the house band for ABE's Five-O-Six Club, one of the biggest and hottest night clubs in the south during the early 1960's and 1970's by drawing constant sell-out crowds. ABE's Five-O-Six booked some of the worlds biggest entertainers in the business, such as Ray Charles, James Brown, Ike and Tina Turner, Fats Domino, B. B. King, Otis Redding, Big Joe Turner, Sam Cook, Sam and Dave, Bobby Blue Bland, Sarah Vaughn, Aretha Franklin, Hank Ballard and the Midnighters, Solomon Burke, Tyrone Davis, Bobby Womack, Al Green, Seal Johnson and the late great O. V. Wright. Earnest got to know most of these artists personally. Earnest big chance came when he visited one of James Brown's rehearsals while performing in Pensacola. As James Brown played the organ, Earnest began to sing and Mr. Brown was highly impressed with him and had him come to New York where he was introduced to his personal manager, Mr. Ben Bart. He also had the opportunity of performing with James Brown, Wilson Pickett and Bobby Byrd at the Hill Side Theatre in New York and also performed at the Apollo Theatre in New York. Earnest says James Brown has been his idol and the force in his career as well as the late Jimmy Reed. Earnest considers his big break came in 1977 at ABE's Five-O-Six Club while Al Green was performing. He was approached by one of the band members, Howard Grimes, the drummer of Al Green's band. He was asked to visit the hotel where they were staying for an audition. After the audition the band members were highly impressed and introduced him to their producer, Mr. Willie Mitchell of Hi Records in Memphis, TN. Mr. Mitchell immediately asked Earnest to come to Memphis and sigh him with a multi recording contract in which he became there first blues artist. He was scheduled to release his records after completing his recording session. He returned home very excited as well as his hometown fans but due to a tragedy in his family he was unable to cope with his problems and for a number of years he never returned to Memphis to pursue his dreams and career. Most of his fans and friends encouraged him to return to pursue his music career in which he did by helping young people with talent to organize groups. At present Earnest's latest achievement was to produce and manage a young group from New Orleans, LA known as High Quality, successfully recording an album that gave him and his group recognition throughout the United States and Canada. High Quality is currently performing in Canada and is being booked by Felman Brothers Booking Agency and is overseas presently. Earnest has performed with local recording artist such as James Purifoy, Peggy Scott and Gwen McCray. Earnest is presently writing producing and arranging his own music.
