Eyes Have It
Eileen is a veteran songwriter and performer. Having been on stage since the age of 16, she intuitively draws an audience in. Everything she offers musically reflects a diverse background in styles and taste. She grew up in the sixties and seventies listening to the country classics, classical piano, folk music, rock and roll, and pop. She graduated from Virginia Commonwelath University with a Bachelors of Music Education with a focus in classical guitar and flute; outside of the university, she began writing and performing in an alternative rock project and learned to play the electric guitar and percussion. She was selected by the Virginia Commission of the Arts as an Artist in Resident, using that support to fund a tour booked through NACA, for her band 'Theories of the Old School'. Theories produced a CD and video (Michael Rosendale and Marco Matsai) and toured extensively along the East Coast. Her parallel careers in Music Education in Public Schools and Performance have helped her become an outspoken advocate for music inclusion in early childhood education. She continues to perform and write music for various school projects and bands. In addition to writing and recording her next CD (with producer engineer Skip Brown), she is currently a member of engine 143: A Carter Family Tribute, is developing a performance art project with storyteller and writer Betsy Mountcastle, and is in rehearsal with a Rock and Roll band (unnamed). She has released 2 solo recordings on Awakened Records and chosen CD Baby as the exclusive distributor for her most recent recording, The Eyes Have It. The writing on her current recordings are introspective and reflective. She chooses familiar places as settings for the songs; The Chesapeake Bay and the Middle peninsula of Virginia. Her images include pines, oaks, fields of hay, woodstoves, apple trees, old dogs, telephones and rivers; everyday things that her fans identify with. These images and the timeless struggle between the darkness and light of the soul are merged into stories. Her music is an accurate interpretation of the stories, and sets the mood for each song. Is she talented? All that and more....
