Light That Takes You
The Light That Takes You, the debut EP release from Eirene, marks the arrival of a truly enthralling new rock band. Powered by vibrant melodies and powerful hooks, the Ohio-based-outfit's debut is an undeniably irresistible force lead by singers Erica Keene and Nelson Wheatley. The small town vocalists' intense emotions and remarkably confident sound, with varying ranges and delicate phrasing set Eirene apart from the pack. With the joyous noise of songs such as 'Eleveneleven' and 'Emergency Light,' evoking a passionate sense of hope, every listener in their path can't help, but be moved. This is not to say that there is nothing more beyond their dancing melodies. Underlying the voices of Keene and Wheatley, are the unfailing sharp and frenetic guitar works of Brian LaRue, whose riffs are just as memorable as any of the gyrate wisps of vocal tenacity. LaRue's fret work undeniably flows graciously into the dancing and hard hitting beats of Joshua Alan, whose rhythms are cleverly driving, and Nelson's poppy bass lines that ebb into punchy hard hitting undertones, helping make up the back bone of their songs. The band's work sets an engaging tone lining up with the best of America's Alternative/Pop-punk rock artists. Formed while it's members were students at The University of Findlay, in the Mid-eastern omelet of Findlay, OH the band had gone through several musical endeavors before finding their current defining sound. While at school Keene and Nelson had both separately become avid song writers and connoisseurs, both initially envisioning their works as solo pieces, but when coupled with an affinity for the rock scene and a call to spread a message of hope to the world, the members found themselves uniting and creating what is now known as Eirene. 'When we decided to become a group, I think we all did it because we love music,' Nelson said. 'We write songs, because we love songs, and we have a passion to reach out to other people, and we're just doing it the best way we know how. Music.' The passion they share for their work and each other permiates from their recordings and live shows. Alan says, "We have a lot to give. This is just the beginning."
