Speaker for the Dead
Emrys is a band of misfits and maniacs. The group was started in February 2003 as an outlet for their frustrations with society's ills. They have suffered through numerous line-up changes over the years, but have continued to grow both musically and intellectually to become the force they are today. Speaker For The Dead marks a huge milestone for the group as their first full-length studio album. It was a year in the making, but the band put that time to good use perfecting all the tracks. The album was produced with the help of Tim Bongiovanni, who had worked with the band previously on the Among Blind EP. The album itself deals with a lot of complex themes, including depression (Hades), addiction (Skull With Burning Cigarette), moral apathy (Prone), suicide (Speaker For The Dead), and even incest (White Flame). While the lyrics themselves reflect a darker side to the group, the whole concept of the album is Hope amidst Despair as evidenced in songs like Orchid and After. It was a real journey for the band, and the first step of many to come.
