Just As I Am
Philicia Jones was born 9/6/1980 to the proud parents Evelyn Jones and Benny Young. She has been singing in the church choir since a young girl and began directing her last year of high school. She is now the director over the youth choir and assistant to Janequa in the Mass Choir of her church. She realized her love for singing in middle school when she entered the school's talent show with a group of friends and heard the crowd yelling and applauding as she began to sing. Since then, Philicia has sung with two groups, one being the Morning Starlites during her highschool years with Janequa and four other girls from their church and Essence of Praise. After a couple of years of singing at the different churches Philicia wanted to go higher and at that time she began to look more into the music industry, reading and learning more about how to be an artist. Over the years she has helped different unknown artist start from the bottom and work their way to the top. One of the artist being Berthel who has become a signed artist and Essence of Praise who is working their way from the bottom of Houston to the top of the gospel industry. When asked of inspirations, Philicia's comments are, "My life and my family is what inspires me to want more out of life, and the love of Christ is what inspires me to share the gospel". Janequa "Chanee" Green was born 8/20/1985 to proud parents Elder Billy Green and First Lady Georgia Green. Janequa is the mass choir president and director of the young adult choir of her home church Morning Star Word of Life Church where her father is the Pastor. Janequa has been singing since a young girl in the choir at the church and as a teen joined up with Philicia and four other young ladies from their home church to form a gospel group. When joining with Essence of Praise Janequa could see herself doing the big concerts and showcases. And that she did. The group decided to take a small break so that they could finish their schooling and other businesses to have more time to focus on the group. But Janequa persevered. She went on to complete a single album and performed with major artists with RIZEN being one of the groups she was in concert with. Janequa is a jack of all trades. She writes, sings and even acts. When asked who inspires her most, her answer sure enough was, "My family is who inspires me to do the will of God. And in no way can anyone take what God has for me away." Dequesia "Kisha" Jones was born 11/27/1976 to the proud parents of Evelyn and Bobby Jones. Kisha has been singing since a young girl in elementary. Doing school plays, musicals, etc. In middle school Kisha song on a compilation album with the S.H.A.P.E Community Center. She was approached to do a record deal with one of the independent labels in the Houston area but her mother decided that it was too much too soon. She continued to sing on tracks for persons who needed her vocal sound. Unfortunately, in 1996 Kisha and Philicia's oldest brother Shawn Jones was shot and died. At that time, Kisha stopped singing on albums that were offered. She did however remain in the church choir. Kisha knew that her brother would want his dream to live on but could not bring herself to the motivation needed. After years of singing in the church choir and doing small projects here and there Kisha decided that it was time to get back into the industry. This time she was going to sing gospel. Kisha is the main writer for Essence of Praise along with Janequa as the co-writer. She is gifted in many ways and she also dabbles in production. When asked of her inspirations, without a blink she says, "My brother and I had a dream that I must bring to reality." Essence of Praise is a group of three young ladies who loves the Lord. They have been singing together in the mass choir for over 10 years at their present home of worship, Morning Star Word of Life Church. In 2001, they began to go out to sing at other churches as a group. They have worked with several artists in the music industry as a whole. Their main music being mostly gospel, because it is their calling. The group has been very blessed thus far. Offered deals by record labels but none of them was where God wanted them to be. They remain independent artists under Top Notch Entertainment and are continuing to worship God in spirit and truth.
