Petra Jakas (violin) Petra was born in 1983. in the coastal town of Sibenik, Croatia, where she began her education in music in the age of 9. In the age of 16 she enters the Academy of Music in the class of prof. Dr. Orest Shourgot from Ukraine. She graduated in the year of 2003. in the class of prof. Koncar at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, Croatia. During the course of her studies she was awarded a prestigious Rector reward. She has also participated in many courses and seminars of world's renowned instructors, some of which are Asja Kouchner (Russia), Faruk Sijaric (Bosnia and Hercegovina) and quartet Medici (Great Britain). While studying, Petra participated and won prizes in national competitions (first place in Dubrovnik 1998. and 2000., second place in Rijeka 1998. and 2000). She also actively participated in several international competitions (second and third place at the 'Etide i Skale' competition in Zagreb 1998., fourth place in 1999; Third place at the 'Lions' club international competition in Rijeka 2000). Her performance was also rewarded at the 'Alpe-Adria' competition in Italy. Petra was one among the chosen four students from the Musical Academy in Zagreb who represented Republic of Croatia on the 'World Peace Orchestra' tour in Bosnia and Hercegovina, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland in 2001. As a member of the international orchestra 'YMISO' and 'WPO' she participated in several political summits in Austria and Hungary. In the year od 2002. she begins to work part time as a member of 'Cantus' musical ensemble playing modern styles. Aside from classical music, Petra also plays ethno styles and with the 'MUK' band she promoted Republic of Croatia at the Olympic games in Athens, 2005. Since 2003. Petra is a full time member of the Symphony Orchestra of HRT (Croatian Radiotelevision). In the year of 2004. Petra started a collaboration with guitar player Branimir Komesar, and in 2006. they formed 'Far Voices', a band which promotes world ethno music.
